Githan Coopoo
South Africa
2022
Clay and acrylic.
Like many of Coopoo’s annotated clay vessels, this work knocks over the conventions of the traditional ceramic urn. Suggestive of a post-it note left on the breakfast table, rather than a vase in a display cabinet, this piece speaks in a tone of sarcasm. Its plastic-like surface and screeching colour, reminiscent of mass-produced items, oSer commentary on the social disconnect of the consumerist mindset. Is this a trophy for a game which has already been lost?
