Running from 19 February to 30 April 2025, the Stellenbosch Triennale transforms Stellenbosch, South Africa, into a hub of contemporary African art. At Stellenbosch Triennale 2025, under the theme “Ba'zinzile: A Rehearsal for Breathing,” sustainability is woven into every detail. From how our artists create to where they stay, we’re reimagining what it means to host an art event that respects both people and the planet.
Sustainable Art That Belongs to the Land
Each artwork is crafted on-site in Stellenbosch, eliminating the need for long-distance shipping and reducing transport emissions. But this choice is about more than logistics; it roots each piece in the landscape it was created in, making the art an authentic part of its surroundings and reinforcing the local connection.
Local Materials, Local Story
We source materials directly from the Stellenbosch region, minimising our environmental impact while supporting local suppliers. Each installation is more than art—it’s a true piece of Stellenbosch, reflecting the resources and character of this vibrant place. By sourcing locally, the Stellenbosch Triennale celebrates both artistic expression and environmental responsibility.
A Sustainable Future for Every Installation
Each installation is crafted with a sustainable future in mind. At the close of ST2025, many works will be recycled, donated, or allowed to return naturally to the earth. This approach aligns with our commitment to sustainability, ensuring a lighter footprint after the event while setting a new standard for responsible art exhibitions.
Sustainable Stays for Our Artists
Our artists are hosted at Quiver Tree Stellenbosch, an off-grid hotel that runs on green energy.
By choosing eco-friendly accommodations, every part of the Triennale experience—from the art venues to the places our artists stay—reflects our dedication to conscious choices and sustainable practices.
The Stellenbosch Triennale 2025 is more than an exhibition—it’s a call to creativity that heals our community and our resources. Join us across iconic venues like Oude Libertas, US Museum, Rupert Museum, and The Woodmill, and explore more about our journey at stellenboschtriennale.com.
